Early in the morning, your safari driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or residence in Kigali at around 4:00 AM and transfer you to Volcanoes National Park, approximately 2.5 hours away. Upon arrival, you will register and attend a briefing by park rangers before starting the hike to the former Karisoke Research Center, located between Mount Karisimbi and Mount Bisoke.
The hike takes you through lush forest with opportunities to spot birds, monkeys, and other wildlife while learning about Dian Fossey's remarkable contribution to mountain gorilla conservation. You will visit the site of the former research center and the gravesite of Dian Fossey and several gorillas she worked tirelessly to protect. After the hike, enjoy lunch in Musanze before driving back to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
